Will the Wedding Wish Lanterns harm the environment?
No, not at all. Wish Lanterns are made with 100% biodegradable materials. Once the Wish Lantern wick has burned out the lantern will float gently back down to the ground, where the cardboard fuel cell and rice paper body will bio degrade, and the very thin wire frame will rust away in the rain within a few weeks.
Are they safe to use?
Yes, Wish Lanterns are completely safe – as long as the safety instructions enclosed are observed. They do involve the use of a naked flame so please ensure you familiarise yourself with the safety instructions prior to using them, and only use them in open spaces.
Do I need to ask my wedding venue for permission to use Wedding Wish Lanterns?
Yes, the use of wedding wish lanterns is at the venue’s discretion so we would advise you to check with them before ordering.
How do I light them?
It’s best to use two people for this, one to hold out the edges of the lantern and one to light the small cardboard square in the centre of the lantern. It works best if you light each corner of the cardboard wick while the lantern is upright.
What are the best conditions to use them in?
Wedding Lanterns can be used in a variety of different environments; however we recommend against using them in windy conditions. If it is still enough to light the lanterns easily you will be able to use them, but be aware that any wind will cause their flight path to sweep diagonally and light them well clear of any trees or buildings.
They can be used in the rain if it’s only light or drizzling but it is advised not to use them in heavy downpours.
Can my children use them?
It is strongly advised that children are not left unsupervised with Wish Lanterns as flames and matches/lighters are involved. Children should not attempt to light the lanterns or launch a lantern by themselves under any circumstances.
If you want to light a lantern with a child, they can hold the top of the lantern whilst an adult lights the fuel cell as long as great care is taken over this.
Are Wedding Wish Lanterns known by any other names?
Chinese Lanterns are also known as khoom fay, sky lanterns, glow lanterns, sky candle, wish lanterns, flying lanterns, UFO balloons, party lanterns or Thai lanterns in different parts of the world.
I’m going to be using Wedding Wish Lanterns in a coastal area, do I need to alert the coastguard?
Yes. Please do contact the local coastguard and let them know the time and place that you intend to launch the Wish Lanterns. This is necessary to ensure the lanterns are not mistaken for rescue flares in the sky.
I want to order a number of lanterns different to the packs that you offer/ can I order a specific number of lanterns in the colours I want?
Yes and yes, we are always wiling, and usually able to accomodate a custom order of lanters. Please do contact us for a quote before ordering however. Our coloured lanterns are available in purple, yellow, orange, red, blue, pink and green.
Can I take the lanterns on a commercial aeroplane flight?
Yes, you can take lanterns onboard an aeroplane as long as they are stored within your hold luggage.
What is the lead time on the personalised wedding packages?
We require at least two weeks lead time from ordering to dispatch for our personalised wedding packages, as the inserts and wish cards have to be printed with your personalised header and footer.
